This is the mood board that I created that represents my ideal reader. It contains many images that could show the general interests of my target reader.

There are some pictures that I feel that best represent my target readership:

The girl with the sunglasses that have the picture of Hollywood inside - I believe that this image exactly shows my target reader. My magazine will contain a lot of pop stars and the girls who read my magazine should be nearly obsessed with the Hollywood pop artists that the magazine displays.

The bright nail varnish - I think that the vibrance of the colours of the nail varnish is significant because it indicates the age and personality of my target audience.

Justin Bieber, Jonas Brothers and other young men - This is important because it shows how the girls age affects their taste in men. Men like Justin Bieber and Jonas Brothers look harmless so therefore they can be seen as attractive to younger girls.

PRE-LIM TASK

This is the magazine cover I designed when our task was to create a school magazine. My magazine was directed at new Year 7's and was created to help them be cool at school.
I divided the bold colours of blue and pink in half so a clear distinction can be drawn between boy and girl.

One thing that I dislike about my magazine cover is the choice of fonts. They are boring and unattractive and I don't feel that they particularly represent the target audience.

In addition, one thing that I like about my magazine is the images. Because of the images of the boy and girl of the same age as my target readership, I think that they would be more likely to relate to the magazine.

Quick Analysis - Top Of The Pops Magazine


Top of the Pops is a magazine run by the BBC, that is mainly based totally on pop music, but also includes pages of fashion and beauty.
The Content
Top of the Pops is mostly concentrated on pop music, and cool current pop artists. The magazine also includes pages of low budget fashion and beauty and advice columns.
Language
Like Bliss magazine, the language used is informal therefore the magazine is associating themselves with that age group.
Mode of Address
Another similarity between TOTP and Bliss is the tone of the magazine being very familiar; making the reader feel comfortable and therefore more likely to continuously buy it. They also approach the reader as if they are an informed fan, they show this by referring to pop stars by their first names, e.g. "Harry", "Tom", and "Emma".
Colour Scheme and Font
There is a lot of pink and purple used. This suggests a female dominant readership, and also the young age of the readers. The fonts are big, bold and sometimes interesting.
Audience
It is obvious that the audience of this magazine is younger girls, and this is suggested by the advertisements featured in the magazine, the colour schemes and image dominant pages.
Layout
Pictures are very dominant on every page throughout the magazine. There is little text apart from in interviews. Narrative is broken up into colourful bubbles or blocks, making it easier to see and read.

Quick Analysis - Bliss Magazine


Bliss is definitely a publication that has influenced my magazine a lot. However, Bliss focuses solely on stereotypical teenage girls’ interests, and my magazine will include that but additionally so much more information about pop stars and current music.
The Content
The magazine is focused on what a stereotypical teenage girl would be interested in. For example, fashion, beauty, music and relationships with friends and boys. There are also many interviews with cool and current celebrities, usually, ones that teenage girls are likely to aspire to.
Language
The language used is informal, and this makes it more relevant to the target audience. By using language that teenage girls are likely to use, for instance, “OMG, total cringe!” the readership can associate themselves with the magazine and therefore feel as though they can connect with it.
Mode of Address
The tone of the magazine is very familiar; making the reader feel comfortable and therefore more likely to continuously buy it.
Colour Scheme and Font
The colours used are very soft and primary showing the young age of the audience. The font used is very big and bold, attempting to catch the reader’s attention.
Audience
It is obvious that the audience of this magazine is teenage girls, but maybe younger in the teen years, for example, 13-16.

Hi I'm Freya Martyniak and my magazine is called "StarStruck". The target audience is young girls from ages 11-15, who are into pop music. The magazine will feature interviews with the latest pop artists and recommended new albums and singles.
